The microwave types are OK but I've had the experience of my microwave overheating them a bit, causing the cloth covering to melt in spots. And they only stay hot for a period of time. What I like about the Q-fiber is it stays hot - though it does kick off after a period of time, you can simply restart the cycle. There's no concern of overheating as with the microwave. There is also the option of using a 12 volt plug in your car or on one of those car chargers (if your power is out or if you're camping). It has a battery pack for four AA batteries though I haven't tried it yet. The instructions say the heat will lessen as the batteries wear out. The batteries are the only way to walk around with it on, otherwise you have the cord. That's the only disadvantage I can see. If you need to get up for something, you can just unfasten the velcro. It's easy on, easy off. Maybe the biggest disadvantage to this heat belt is my partner likes it so I may have trouble getting to use it at times! A great product and I did find it at overstock for 58.
